About Us
Alice and Don both grew up in hunting families.

Alice spent many hunting seasons in the woods of Eastern Oregon chasing the elusive deer with her family. She did not do any bird hunting until later in life.

Don also grew up in a hunting family.  As a small boy he hunted the fence rows, ditches, filbert, walnut and prune orchards of the Oregon Willamette Valley. He hunted pheasants, chukars, quail, grouse, doves, pigeons, ducks and geese as he grew up. As a family he went deer and elk hunting. As he grew older he spent most of he weekends, fishing, claming, crabbing or hunting.

With the short seasons and conflict of the big game and bird seasons, it was getting harder to train a good bird dog on how to hunt birds.

In 1989 we leased a piece of property outside of Ashwood for dog training.  We took the cows off the creek bottom land, started putting in habitat and spent 7 years developing Trout Creek Preserve. We ran it as a hobby preserve, working on habitat and what makes a good strong flying bird.  The preserve came to an end when the couple divorced and the land was sold.

We then decided to make a life style change and go into the preserve business full time.  We sold our businesses and homes and bought property outside of Olex, Oregon - 1,200 acres with diversified habitat and a stream through the property (Rock Creek). The first year we pulled the cows off the property and took out tons of barb wire fencing along the creek.  We are still ripping out fence to make it more hunter and dog friendly. We have been developing habitat along creeks, taking out sagebrush areas and planting with more bird cover. We will be working  on more habitat to make the hunting bigger and better each year.

We wanted to put in a preserve to give people a place to season their dogs and to provide training assistance if needed.  We have different kinds of birds and habitat needed for the different kinds of dogs.  We are a hunting preserve for dogs owners, dog lovers and people that love to hunt.  Our prices are very reasonable, so bring a friend, your dog and share a hunt, or come hunt with us and our dogs.

So come and create some memories.
